These boots are made for walkin'

Yesterday I received the exact same question from two completely different people at completely different times. "It's spring, but can I still wear boots?" My first question back was, "what are you planning on wearing them with?" Followed with, "during what occasion?" The weather has been awfully nice and makes me want to pull out my opened toe sandals, one problem however, my toes aren't quite ready for spring. I still have boot-wearin' feet! I told both women that I feel it is currently okay to continue wearing your boots with pants so that only the foot and heel of the boot is shown. No wearing them with tights/leggings or skirts or dresses! April is upon us and we'll start getting into the heart of spring very soon. Having said that, you don't have much longer to wear your boots.... Get to walkin'!

These will do

A couple of months ago I posted about a pair of pumps I saw on a soap opera I view from time-to-time that I had to have. They were absolutely fabulous and unlike any shoe I've seen - gold squared toe, bedazzled buckle, very tall block heel. I went on a considerable searching mission - the soap opera's website, major shoe websites, shoe and department stores, etc. and no luck. I found pairs that looked very similar, but not quite what I was looking for. There is this pair shown below I found at Zappos. They are awfully cute and come close - squared toe, light in color although not quite gold, but they do bestow a gold buckle. The title leads one to believe I have settled, but I do love these shoes and they come closest to what I'm actually searching for. And on a positive note the difference with these and the bedazzled pair is that I can even wear these to the office.... A very significant plus.

And then there were 12

American Idol reveled the final twelve singers this week. This is a huge deal because this is the group that will go on the American Idol tour once this season's show is over. Everyone is talking about the shockers - Sabrina Sloan leaving and Sanjaya Malakar staying. I was not surprised that Sanjaya made the top 12 because if you can remember after the performances for week 1 Ryan Seacrest alerted the audience that Sanjaya was the top 4th vote-getter. Past performance does not guarantee future results, but it is a huge indicator of what's to come. I personally feel sorry for the kid, but there is always one contestant labeled as the "outcast" every year - guess it has to be him. Sabrina's departure on the other hand I was very surprised with. She is gorgeous, has personality and not to mention a great voice, and last time I checked this is a singing competition. Well I'm not sure it matters anyhow because 11 contestants are singing for the right to second place after the likes of Melinda Doolittle.

JT - that boy can dance!

As I posted last week I went to the Justin Timberlake show, and it was the bomb (for lack of a better word)! The venue was a basketball arena, and his set is a huge circle where he can perform to all members of the audience; He calls it an intimate setting. In front of his stage are bar stools available for purchase. With this seat you can put your drink down on his stage while grabbing onto his leg, his hand or where ever. Behind those fans are the standing audience - they too can attempt to run-up and grab onto some part of him. I was behind those people in the stands in my cozy seat.

Throughout the show Justin put up removable large screens that looked like sheer drapes where his performance was being shown for those who had a poor view. That actually came in handy for me due to the fact that Justin was on one side of the stage most of the night. In my opinion he did not distribute his time to all four parts of the venue evenly, so I found myself looking at the large screens quite often. It did not stop me and my friends from having an awesome time though.

Oh my goodness, that boy sure can dance! He came out to one of my favorite songs on the new CD - FutureSex/LoveSounds where of course he "tore up" the stage with his sexy and hip moves. My favorite performance from him that night was to My Love. He was at the piano and played some guitar throughout the night as well. I didn't realize he was so talented. He also did a few songs from his first solo CD and one song from his time with NSync. The place went into a frenzy when Timberland came out onto the stage. It was an awesome surprise. All-in-all a remarkable show from Mr. Justin!

I must admit, I'm like a teenage girl right now - I'm headed to the Justin Timberlake show tonight! Jack Bauer's going to have to be put on hold for the likes of flashy dancin', WilliamRast jeans, and unfortunately screaming girls. Should be an entertaining show; I was pumped after his performance at the Grammy's last weekend. I'm so excited his tour is stopping here.

Spring in the air

OMG when is spring going to get here?! It is so so so cold here in the Midwest. I digress! What are the trends for spring you ask? Well Elle magazine does a very good round-up on their website of top pieces and trends that the fashion conscious woman should take part in. White is everywhere- in accessories, dresses, shorts, everywhere. Fendi's spy bag in white is a must-have, so gorgeous. Short-shorts and minidresses are a must for spring, so break out that razor! Heels are just getting higher and higher- they're here for spring especially in the wedge. Leggings were everywhere in 2006 and I don't think they're going away, at least not this season so keep them around. And with the groundhog not seeing his shadow last Friday, we may get to partake in the spring trends sooner rather than later! Elle.com

Super Bowl Sunday

Good luck to the Chicago Bears and the Indianapolis Colts during today's Super Bowl match-up. I don't have a preference one way or another, both teams are very very good. Although it is overwhelming how many fans and experts are picking the Colts to win the game. A lot has been made of this, but I do want to give a shout to coaches Lovie Smith and Tony Dungy being the first African-American head coaches to get to the Super Bowl. I think this is a win-win game!

Time for fall?!

Are you ready for Fall 2007? I'm not, but the fashion world is. The end of this week starts New York fashion week where designers both experienced and spankin' new will show their collections for fall 2007. I'm just starting to get use to winter finally arriving in the Midwest where temperatures have been in the low 20s... I'm ready for spring to get here! I suppose it's that time for stores to start loading the shelves with spring wear, which means designers are thinking about next winter! Who am I to understand their schedule, but I am very excited to see what they declare the trends will be. I'm anticipating collections from Zac Posen, Tracy Reese, and BCBG this fall.

Bright Spot

Despite my previous post venting about the allotted time dedicated to all the terrible auditions, there have been some bright spots from time to time on American Idol.... Exhibit 1 (see photo)! This gorgeous talent tried out in New York City and knocked it out of the park with a [the late] Gerald Levert song. Not only a pretty face but a beautiful voice, and get this, he's only 16 years old! I cannot believe that. His look, demeanor, confidence all seem so much older. All I can say is wow. Needless to say he made it to Hollywood, which means we all get to see him at least one more time!

No Hollywood for you

American Idol has gotten ridiculous these past couple of weeks. I love this show and do not miss it, but the early stage of the audition process is beginning to torture my mind. In past seasons they would not only show the terribly untalented people who just want 10 minutes on television at everyone's expense, but they actually would show the talented folks who want a real shot. This season's episodes have focused ad nauseum on the untalented unfunny acts - Their story, their background, their goals - who cares! They are neither funny nor fun to watch; it's quite annoying to see and hear a lot of these people, and from the looks of it Simon Cowell feels the same way I do. How about when all three judges tell the auditioned "no" as in no to Hollywood and he or she feels compelled to plead his/her case by continuing to sing (horribly) or yell, curse, cry, etc. Hello they just told you no now take your 5 minutes of fame with your over-the-top antics and leave!

Got me in Stitches

So I went jean shopping the other day looking for the perfect skinny pair in either light demin or gray wash. For some reason I cannot find gray in anything other than bootcut, and the light wash I found were not long enough. If you cannot imagine my frustration let me tell you... I've tried on pair after pair and gone in store after store only to walk out empty handed. Finally I walked into a boutique that sells only designer jeans, you know, Rock and Republic, 7 for All Mankind, True Religion - you get the point. Most of these designers do not make a gray or light wash in the skinny, but the helpful sales attendant showed me a pair by Stitches. I'd never even heard of this designer, but wanted to try anything that was close to what I was looking for. Once she threw them to me over the dressing room door, I happened to take a look at the price tag - $253!!! After gasping and throwing up a little in my mouth, I asked (in my head of course) "who is this designer anyway"! Well I tried them on and what do you know, they fit perfectly and they are the exact color I have been looking for....

Unsolved Shoe Mystery

How does one go about finding a shoe worn by someone on a television program? While watching Monday's soap opera Guiding Light (which I Tivo'd), one of the characters - 'Tammy' had on the cutest pair of gold pumps. Since the episode was Tivo'd I was able to rewind and pause, and now the shoe is forever ingrained into my memory. It is a closed foot squared-toe gold pump with about a 4 inch (because nothing is shorter than 4 inches anymore) stacked heel and a bedazzled topaz rhinestone square buckle on the top of the foot just below the toes. I've seen similar shoes out there in my search, but not the exact pair. I tried logging onto the soap's website, but no luck. Have you had a similar experience? What was the outcome? Any advice for me?
