Buy of the week

I was walking through a department store headed straight to bath department when an indescribably gorgeous hot pink shoe caught my eye. Do I 1) ignore them and get to my original destination, 2) touch them, hold them, check out the price, or 3) ask the attendant for my size and give them a try? I chose three, they were just too cute to pass by. These BCBGirls wedges come in Black, Oil Blue, and Bright Pink. The department store did not have my size nor did they carry them in blue, but I'm sure Zappos would be able to assist me. I don't think I can live without them! Oh what color to choose...

Happy V-day to me!

I came home from work tonight to find a bouquet of assorted flowers on my door step. Isn't that so sweet! There's no card attached and I just moved here so not quite certain these are meant for me, but they've found a good home over here, thanks!

Where my shopaholics at?

January retail numbers were released today on Wall Street at way way below than expected returns. Experts say these dire results prove that we are currently indeed in a recession. Redbook Research, which tracks and reports analysis on retail sales was one source to deliever the depressing data today. So I'm wondering where are all my fellow shopaholics? Sure times are tough, but there's nothing like a cute new pair of heels or a hot new dress to get you out of that funk and forget about your problems (at least temporarily).

Doesn't she looks happy, not a care in the world and I'm with her! Although most of my shopping is done on credit, which could be bad and a big reason why we're in this mess in the first place.

Gone are the days when credit card solicitations and approvals are like blinking. Some of those who have them are breaking out a sharp shiny object where unless you're Johnny Depp does not look good with any outfit. So I urge my fellow shopaholics to get back out there, our economy needs you!

Not so BAZAAR cover

Check out my girl JLo in Harper's Bazaar February issue. She looks great on the cover wearing a Michael Kors empire gown in beautiful yellow. Make-up minimalistic and gorgeous, hair full and loose. I have yet to touch January's issue, so I cannot delve into this month instantly (my own hang-up!), but I sure am inspired.

Valentino retires

A bittersweet day for the 75-year old Italian fashion designer. Valentino showed his last collection in Paris last night ending his magnificent career to a standing ovation. Reuters ran a small blurb about it, check out the video:

Click your heels

I happened to wounder into DSW last night just to browse, well to see if I could find those marvelous Jessica Simpson pumps I posted about last week. Unfortunately I could not find them, but managed to walk out with a dazzling pair of ballet flats. I had no intention on purchasing anything other than the targeted JS pump, but these just popped out at me. Not only that but the price was to die for, I couldn't just let them sit there without a home, without a foot to snuggle up to could I? These Guess by Marciano silver flats are so darling and comfortable, at least felt comfortable for the short time I was in them while trying them on, that I cannot wait to slip them on for the world (and by world I mean town) to see. The best thing about these, although flat, they're dressy enough to where to work. Aren't these loverly!

Crazy in love

I'm so in love with Jessica Simpson. Well her shoe collection. I mean every solitary season I want to purchase each pair of her shoes! They are always so divinely gorgeous. I was walking through Macy's the other day and noticed a specific pair that I realize at this moment I need. This is a peep-toe that looks to be between three and four inches high. I kept my composure and my money in my pocket and did not even try them on, I just kept on walking. Many days later I find myself still thinking about them, like that cute boy I met in the club last month. I've attached a similar pair also by Jessica from shoebuy.com, only my soon-to-be shoe is hole-less. Notice the nontraditional curved heel, a la Prada, without the steep price tag of course. Like I said the entire collection is to die for (as usual) but this one just stands out, as I will when they end up on my feet!

Designerrrrrs (in the Tim Gunn voice)

What kind of cable company does not carry the Bravo network?! After my move I am now forced to utilize Time Warner as my cable company provider. I had plenty of unpleasant experiences with Insight Communications cable, but they provided every channel I deemed necessary for my viewing entertainment. I've been hearing the horror of Time Warner's (and now experiencing) lack of channel carrying participation. We've all heard the dramas around Time Warner not agreeing to carry the Big Ten Network, another issue I have on a whole other level, but for my region not to carry a standard such at Bravo network? Unbelievable! I mean I am utterly baffled by this. I had to make them aware of my position, so of course I wrote to the cable company and put in a request. Their response:

Thank you for taking the time to contact us to request Bravo. This is our number one requested channel so we understand how important this channel is to our customers. Our Corporate office is having discussions with Bravo about carriage on our system.

Bull crap! How could this even be an issue in the first place? Why are we important customers forced to be in a position of requesting basic/standard channels? Obviously the most exhilarating show on the Bravo network is Project Runway! This is the best show on TV right now. My sister and I live for this show!... And now I'm missing all of the new (after the holidays) episodes. You cannot understand in how much disbelief I was in on a Wednesday at 10PM looking frantically for Bravo to view Project Runway not knowing that we DON'T carry Bravo here! Thus far I've missed one new episode. I found a few websites that do an excellent job of recapping the show, which I'll rely on until Time Warner decide to bring Bravo to my area. That and my sister's text messages. I miss Christian and the craziness that sputters from his mouth! He's hilarious. My sister loves Rami, who is awfully good. This season all of the designers are really good. This is why I am so upset and desperate for Time Warner to add Bravo; I am potentially missing the best season of Project Runway ever!

Shady Times

I'm now one of them. I'm now one of those non-celebrity people who spend crazy dollars on designer sunglasses. Thanks to the after-Christmas propaganda I've justified paying for a pair of Gucci shades for myself. Designer shades such as these go for no less than $300 - I picked mine up from Saks Fifth Ave for $140. Less than a share of Apple Inc. stock right now. That's not too bad right?! It is if you typically don't pay over $20 for a pair of sunglasses; but I finally own my first pair of designers. Quite surprising since I'm a self-proclaimed fashionista. My girlfriend (MC) aided in my splurge, convincing me how "hot" they look on me. Alright I'll stop pointing fingers now!

How to behave at an office party

My last posting talked about the many office holiday parties bestowed upon me, much to my pleasure indeed. I must comment on the differences in these parties: Stuffy (formal) parties, and carefree/wild (informal) parties. All of our parties are catered and have an open bar, but depending on the invitees the atmosphere can make for a long night or a crazy night! Our most recent holiday party - crazy, very crazy!! Depending on your position on behavioral actions during such events, our most recent party would impress you or offend you. My stance, impressed of course! For me it is very enjoyable to watch people let their guard down, drop the jacket and tie and let loose especially in a corporate setting. This is exactly what happened most recently. Libations were flowing, crushes were revealed, habits were discovered, etc. In other words a very fun and revelatory time. I tend not to stray too far from my 9-5 demeanor, even after 5:00. One of my coworkers was offended and decided to make it a short-lived evening. I, myself wanting my beauty rest made it home at a reasonable hour, but I hear not too many of my coworkers followed suit. I hear the holiday party made a long long night for many people. Makes for an agonizing work day the next day!

Office holiday party time

Wow has the year flown by or what? We have arrived at the time of the year when corporations are hosting their annual holiday party. With me working for such a gigantic firm I have the privilege of being invited to multiple parties; that could be a good or a bad thing. The holiday parties are all planned around the same time, which makes for many conversations, many plates of food, many fake laughs, and many weary days. There is a holiday party for the firm and a holiday party hosted at the departmental level, which can break down into multiple levels with a company the size of mine. Since our parties are during the week and directly after office hours, I have to be cognizant that what I choose to wear to work will convert well for the holiday party. My motto for this week is adorably comfortable. Of course I'll have on hand a small make-up pouch for a quick touchup and refresh. Happy Holidays!

Craziness at Gucci

My boo A.T. alerted me today that Gucci is having a major sale on-line. If you're willing to spare the dollars they command, you'll be happy to learn that they are also offering free shipping through the end of the month. Lucky for me there's nothing I need there, but do we really ever need anything!
